Advocacy Associates was formed through a partnership between Jason Jordan, formerly of the American Planning Association, and Stephanie Vance, the Advocacy Guru. Building upon their joint expertise in grassroots organization and development, communicating with elected officials and association management, Advocacy Associates seeks to help its clients understand how to utilize grassroots advocates to work the legislative system.

Jason Jordan

Jason Jordan is a principal partner in the public affairs firm of Advocacy Associates. The firm specializes in political advocacy training and consulting, including grassroots programs, issue campaign development and implementation, lobbying, campaign management, and general government relations consulting. The firm helps people and organizations influence public policy through effective grassroots campaigns.

Jason Jordan has spent more than a decade helping organizations, candidates, and causes succeed in the political arena. Before joining Advocacy Associates, Jordan spent six years as the director of government relations for the American Planning Association in Washington, D.C. where he was the organization's senior lobbyist and managed grassroots programs. He has a broad background in association management having also led policy and advocacy initiatives for a diverse array of organizations, including the Council for Urban Economic Development, National Association of Installation Developers, and the American Chamber of Commerce Executives. In addition to orchestrating grassroots and lobbying initiatives, he has been a leader in public policy related to community development, transportation and smart growth.

Previously, Jordan worked for former United States Senator Max Cleland. In addition, he has broad political campaign experience having managed field operations and provided general strategic guidance for both congressional and statewide campaigns. An Atlanta native, Jordan has degrees from Emory University and American University.

Stephanie D. Vance

Stephanie D. Vance, author of Government by the People:  How to Communicate with Congress and the fabjob.com guide, Get a Job on Capitol Hill, has 15 years of experience in Congressional affairs.  She has worked in a prominent DC law firm, lobbied for National Public Radio and worked in various Congressional offices, holding positions as Legislative Director and Staff Director.  Her work on congressional communications stems from a deep and abiding belief that government is effective only when citizens are active participants. 

Stephanie has presented the concepts behind How to Communicate with Congress at seminars and workshops around the country, including the Brookings Institution’s Government Affairs Institute.  She has also appeared on WAMU’s “Public Interest” to discuss the basics of congressional communications.  Her website, www.advocacyguru.com has won a number of awards, and her work has been the subject of a variety of print media stories, including an interview with the National Journal’s Cloakroom publication. 

Stephanie holds a Masters Degree in Legislative Affairs from George Washington University and was a 1999 German Marshall Fund Fellow.  She is listed in “Who’s Who in American ”Women.”

Bridget Hennessey

Bridget Hennessey currently runs the Advocacy Associates's California office. She joined the firm in February 2006 and brings with her a broad array of experience in social welfare policy, community development policy and legislative strategy. At Advocacy Associates, Bridget works directly with clients to plan, strategize and implement their legislative agendas. Bridget first came to Washington, DC to work for First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton. Upon returning to Fairfield University in Connecticut to finish her undergraduate work, Bridget worked on local social welfare policy at the Bridgeport Child Advocacy Coalition. Returning to Washington, DC in 2002 Bridget worked as the Legislative Affairs Coordinator for the Association of Metropolitan Planning Organizations in Washington, DC where she coordinated and implemented a comprehensive legislative strategy for the transportation reauthorization bill. Most recently, Bridget worked for Townsend Public Affairs, Inc, in California, where she represented the interests of municipal governments, non-profit organizations and private sector clients at the local, state and federal levels.
 
Bridget Hennessey holds an M.P.P., with a concentration in Welfare Policy, from the George Washington University and a B.A. from Fairfield University.
